The mission of the Department of Athletic Training is to provide high-quality professional education that focuses on prevention, patient-centered care, commitment to social justice, and collaboration with community partners and other health care providers to improve the quality of life in our community.

The Department of Athletic Training offers an undergraduate major in health and wellness. We also offer a minor in exercise science and fitness as well as physical activity classes for the general student population.

Our Department incorporates evidence-based practice, hands-on learning, outreach to the Cincinnati community, team-based care, and an interdisciplinary liberal arts foundation. Wellness includes creative, emotional, environmental, intellectual, occupational, physical, social, and spiritual dimensions. Understanding health and the factors that affect it requires exploring areas in addition to cellular and chemical aspects of disease.

Students studying in the Department of Athletic Training have a variety of options upon graduation. Students prepare for graduate study in health care professions, notably athletic training, occupational therapy, physical therapy, counseling, and nursing. Depending on the student’s chosen minor, graduates may enter the sports performance & recreational fitness industries, health care administration & operations, social service & advocacy. Undergraduate students interested in preparing for a career in healthcare at the graduate level are encouraged to visit Graduate School Planning or contact the director by email at hpac@msj.edu.

The Athletic Training Program at Mount St. Joseph University is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE.) The AT program is no longer accepting undergraduate students. Students interested in the career potential and program outcomes listed here, should apply to the Health and Wellness program.
