Experiential education — cooperative education, study abroad, cultural immersion and service learning — complements a classroom experience by integrating theory with professional practice and real-world experience.
Cooperative Education
Cooperative education, also known as co-op, gives you a fantastic opportunity to learn in an actual career setting, applying your interests and learning about career options. Nearly one-third of the students who participate in cooperative education at the Mount accept full-time employment with previous co-op employers following graduation.

Prior Learning Assessment
We recognize that university-level learning happens outside of the classroom as well. That’s why we provide prior learning assessment, a service that evaluates the professional and personal experience you gained prior to enrolling at the Mount, and reward you with academic credit.

Study Abroad & Cultural Immersion
Study abroad and cultural immersion allow Mount students to experience the world, lending a global perspective and providing an opportunity for personal growth. Students travel to Egypt, Berlin, Japan, the Appalachian Mountains, Cherokee and Lakota reservations and more.

Service Learning
Service learning is an opportunity for students to earn academic credit by participating in meaningful service activities. Service learning fosters a deeper understanding of academic course content and enhances a sense of civic responsibility necessary for the flourishing of any community. Participation in service learning provides a chance for students to explore career paths, build one’s resume by gaining experience, and meaningfully build relationships with community partners.
