Pre-professional studies at Mount St. Joseph University are courses of study prepared by expert faculty members that supplement your existing major and better prepare you for a career as a health professional.

Pre-professional studies offer dedicated guidance from faculty members in the School of Behavioral and Natural Sciences and School of Health Sciences to help tailor your course work so that you are better prepared to pursue an advanced degree.

Career outlook

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that from 2008 to 2018, 26 percent of all new jobs created in the U.S. economy will be in the health care and social assistance industry. This industry is expected to grow by 24 percent, creating four million new jobs.

Public Health

Public health professionals serve local, national, and international communities and confront complex health issues, such as improving access to health care, controlling infectious disease, and reducing environmental hazards, violence, substance abuse, and injury.

Pre-Public Health

The Mount’s pre-public health area of study prepares you well for a range of advanced degrees related to public health, including:

  • Master of Public Health
  • Master of Health Administration
  • Master of Health Services Administration
  • Master of Science in Public Health
  • Doctor of Public Health
  • Doctor of Philosophy

The Mount recommends students interested in pre-public health studies choose a major in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or another natural science.
