Pre-professional studies at Mount St. Joseph University are courses of study prepared by expert faculty members that supplement your existing major and better prepare you for a career as a health professional.

Pre-professional studies offer dedicated guidance from faculty members in the School of Behavioral and Natural Sciences and School of Health Sciences to help tailor your course work so that you are better prepared to pursue an advanced degree.

Career outlook

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that from 2008 to 2018, 26 percent of all new jobs created in the U.S. economy will be in the health care and social assistance industry. This industry is expected to grow by 24 percent, creating four million new jobs.

Dentist

Dentists are professionals who maintain the health of oral structures such as teeth, gums, palates, tongue and other tissues. They prevent, diagnose and treat oral diseases as well as oral-facial anomalies. Dentists provide direct patient care but they may also teach, conduct research and serve in multiple facets of public and international health and are important advocates of public health care policy reform in government.

Pre-Dentist

The Mount’s pre-dentist area of study prepares you well for a four-year degree in dentistry that leads to a doctor of dental surgery. The Mount recommends students interested in pre-dentistry studies choose a major in biology, chemistry, or biomedical sciences.

Health Professions Advisory Committee

Students work with their academics advisors as well as faculty members on the Health Professions Advisory Committee to design a course of study that is best suited for their specific career goals.
