Many social service and criminal justice agencies are now requiring Chemical Dependency Counseling Assistant (CDCA) certification through the State of Ohio. In collaboration with Talbert House, the Social Work program has developed fully online courses that meet the State of Ohio CDCA Preliminary and Renewable requirements. Topics include addiction knowledge, treatment knowledge, professionalism, evaluation, service coordination, documentation, and individual and group counseling.

The Mount offers two courses that meet the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professional Board (OCD) requirements for the Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA) Preliminary and Renewable. Preliminary begins in January 2020 while the classes for Renewable begin in Fall 2020. This schedule allows for ample time to complete all of the state requirements.

Eligibility

Any Mount St. Joseph University degree-seeking student is eligible to enroll. In addition, a non-Mount student may sign up for the courses as a non-degree seeking student. While there are no pre-requisites for the CDCA Preliminary course, Junior or Senior status is highly recommended OR is recommended for persons already working in the field and just starting the certificate process.
