Mount St. Joseph University offers several levels of academic scholarships and awards to incoming students to recognize academic achievement. They do not require a separate application and are awarded on a rolling basis, typically beginning in November for the upcoming academic year. Eligible students will receive an offer for one academic scholarship or award.
Traditional Student Merit Scholarships
All traditional student scholarships are renewable if the student is full-time and meets satisfactory academic progress standards. Part-time students and students with previous bachelor’s degrees are not eligible. High school GPA is based on a weighted 4.0 scale; other grading scales will be converted to a 4.0.
We must receive applications and transcripts two weeks before your first semester begins.
Austin E. Knowlton Memorial Scholarship
The trustees of the Austin E. Knowlton Foundation established the memorial scholarship endowment at the Mount in 2009 and since then have contributed a total of $1,000,000 to continue the scholarship fund for future generations of Mount students.

Sister Mary Lea Scholarship | $2,000 | Incoming freshmen who demonstrate academic talent are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The deadline for applying is January 31. |
Moore-Eckel Scholarship | $1,500 | Incoming freshmen who demonstrate academic talent and plan on majoring in education, business or art may be eligible for this scholarship. The deadline for applying is January 31. |
S. Mary Agnes McCann | $1,000-$3,000 | Incoming freshmen who demonstrate academic talent are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Priority is given to descendants of Mount St. Vincent or Mount St. Joseph Academy students. The deadline for applying is January 31. |
Sisters of Charity Scholarship | $1,000 | Incoming freshmen who demonstrate academic talent are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The deadline for applying is January 31. |
Choose Ohio First (cITe) Scholarship | $8,000 est. based on annual funding | Ohio residents only; incoming freshman that must major in Computer Science (CS) with a concentration in Natural Language Processing (NLP). Students can also pursue a double major in CS-NLP and another major of their choice. For more information please contact Alex Nakonechnyi. |
Music Major Scholarship | $1,000-$3,000 | Incoming freshman; exceptional music majors who demonstrate musical talent. By Audition ONLY. This award does not require a separate application. Contact Music Department Chair, Mark McCafferty, for more information. |
Awards in the Arts | $500-$1,000 | Incoming freshmen who actively participate in University Band, Ensemble, The Art Guild, Theatre, or University Singers are eligible for this award. Students may only receive one award, regardless of participation in multiple groups. This award does not require a separate application. Father Della Pica Award | $500-$1,500 | Incoming freshman; music majors who demostrate academic talent. First consideration is given for music majors pursuing a career in ministry sponsored by the Catholic Church or affiliated organization. This award does not require a separate application. Mission Ambassador Award | $2,000 | Incoming freshmen; interested in serving as student campus ministers through the Office of Mission Integration. Students applying must be actively involved in a faith tradition and exhibit an openness to persons of other faith traditions. The deadline for applying is January 31. |
Art & Design Scholarships | $1,500-$2,000 | Incoming freshmen who demonstrate artistic talent are eligible to apply for these scholarships. The deadline for applying is January 15. Click here for additional scholarship information. |
John Nartker Scholarship | $1,000 | Incoming freshman; academic talent- majoring in art, fine arts, art education, or graphic design. The deadline to apply is January 15. Click here for additional scholarship information. |
Esports Scholarship | $2,000 | Freshman who are enrolled full time and participate in Esports practices, team workouts, and competitive events. Students participating in other NCAA Division III sports are not eligible for this scholarship. Contact Head Coach Tim David for more information. |
Note: The Mount offers scholarships for students demonstrating artistic or musical talents, or planning to enroll in certain majors. Some of these awards require auditions, portfolios or separate applications.
Transfer Student Merit Scholarships
Students must have a minimum of 12 semester hours of college level coursework, be accepted to the Mount, and plan to attend full-time to be considered for a Transfer Scholarship. All Transfer Scholarships are renewable if the student remains full-time and meets satisfactory academic progress standards. Part-time students and students with previous bachelor’s degrees are not eligible. Transfer credit and transfer GPA must come from a regionally accredited institution. GPA used for scholarship consideration will be a calculation of all regionally accredited coursework. No applications are required for the scholarships listed below unless otherwise noted.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship | $1,000 | A cumulative college GPA of 3.25, an earned associate degree from a regionally accredited institution and verification of PTK membership are required. This award can be in addition to other eligible merit scholarships. This scholarship is renewable if the student is full-time and maintaining a 3.0 college GPA. Part-time students and students with previous bachelor's degrees are not eligible. |
Adult Scholarship | $1,000 | Any new or current adult student at the Mount with a minimum 2.75 GPA is eligible to apply for this scholarship. Students are required to complete a FAFSA and submit an application. Recipients of this scholarship cannot be eligible for any need-based state or federal grant dollars. Students with a previous bachelor’s degree or students receiving more than 25 percent tuition reimbursement from their employer are not eligible. Connections Scholarship | $2,500 | While enrolled at Cincinnati State Technical & Community College or Gateway Community and Technical College a Connections Scholars application must be submitted. Requirements to meet the Connections Scholarship include an earned associate’s degree from Cincinnati State Technical & Community College or Gateway Community and Technical College with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Connections Scholars must be enrolled in full-time status (12 credit hours minimum) at the Mount. This award can be stacked on other eligible merit scholarships. Applications and transcripts must be received two weeks prior to the start of the semester you plan to begin at the Mount. |
Moore-Eckel Adult Scholarship | $750 | This scholarship is available to current and future MSJ adult students. In order to qualify for this scholarship, students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours of coursework per academic year. A completed FAFSA application, personal statement letter, and additional application form must be submitted by June 1st. The scholarship application can be found on our forms and applications page. |
